Hard to believe another year has come and gone, but here we are. We thought we’d take a quick look back on the hottest trends in Native American jewelry based on website sales and customer requests!
Boho style prevailed, as folks young and old looked to the casual earthy statement of turquoise nuggets! We’ve done well with our nugget necklaces in their traditional form, but check out what one of our lovely models did when handed a 36″ strand of these greenish blue stones! Wrapped several times around her neck, it takes on a lush comfortable feel. It’s always fun to see something old become new again!
The boho style also brought back an interest in slave bracelets – those unique creations where a ring is joined to a matching bracelet with a decorated chain. The Native American artists have made these since the 1970’s, but 2015 brought them back to the limelight!
Storyteller pieces were also claimed quickly, with horse-related themes being the most popular. Those by late silversmith Tommy Singer are nearly gone, and several by Floyd Becenti, with the very cute horses at the ends, also found favor.
Calvin Begay’s “Night Sky” collection was really a hit, and we found new homes for many of these lovely pieces in the last year. We have a few left – now’s the time to get one for yourself!
What’s upcoming for 2016? My crystal ball says there will a continued demand for vintage style pieces such as the incredible coin jewelry made by Navajo artist James McCabe. His link bracelets are luscious! Pre-owned jewelry will also star, as folks look for a comfortable traditional feel. We’re offering a few vintage pieces on the website and at our Etsy store. Be sure to check often – the supply is moving fast!
I just received four rings that you adjusted for me — you guys did a fantastic job! I hadn’t even purchased the pieces at your shop. I worked with Diane, who was friendly, professional, and even had a great sense of humor! The prices for the adjustments were extremely reasonable — I wish we’d known about Old Town Jewels when my husband needed a ring resized last year. I’m looking forward to checking out your shop online and I’m sure you’ll be hearing from me again.
Thank you so much Carol! We’ll be happy to work with you again anytime!
