Traditional Navajo Ring Repair

We specialize in a lot of things…and listening to our customers is one of them!
Recently a gentleman sent us a traditional Navajo men’s ring with a turquoise stone in very sorry shape. He had some very specific requests and questions about the replacement stone and turquoise in general. At first he was adamant: no marks in the replacement turquoise–no matrix, no dark spots. His original hope was for Sleeping Beauty turquoise–a rare and expensive stone since the mine closed last year. His second choice was for a similarly rare and pricey variety known as Persian turquoise. We were confused by this, so we kept asking questions and eventually found out his aversion to matrixed stones. His original stone had chipped and broken, revealing the black backing that is used on many gemstones. Our client thought that the dark matrixed area was spreading through the stone over time–that the turquoise was blackening with age. Once we heard this we were able to take photographs for the client that showed what was really happening–his turquoise stone was literally flaking off the backing. He was surprised and very pleased to hear that he could have a matrixed stone that would stay beautiful, and his fears were finally laid to rest. We found a very pretty piece of Kingman turquoise (which is far less expensive than Persian or Sleep Beauty), and sent him photos of the stone with the ring and he was thrilled to get his ring repaired and back to looking beautiful.

This is just one example of how we like to help our customers.
