Repairs: The Benefits of In-house Craftsmen

It’s quite common for a customer to bring jewelry into the shop for repairs. Of course, this doesn’t just happen here–it happens at shops everywhere. Usually the answer that the shop gives to the customer is, “Of course we can have that repaired for you. We have a really good guy that we send our repairs to!” Here at Old Town, we have a slightly different answer: “Of course! Come meet our craftsmen!”
By using in-house craftsmen like Henry Yazzie, and Sam Gray, we can eliminate problems that tend to rise with 3rd-party repair services. We communicate with our craftsmen all day, every day, and about every repair. We are able to work with them directly to ensure a repair service that is not only more accurate and better communicated, but also quite a bit faster than 3rd-party services. Sometimes a repair can be done wrong, or get mixed up with another repair. If this happens off-site, the shop must deal with the repair shop (usually via email or phone) to find and correct the problem. Here we simply stay with the piece through the entire process to ensure that everything goes right. We’re also able to send pictures ahead to make sure the customer is perfectly happy with the end result.
We’ve seen things go wrong with third-party repair work, and anymore it’s fair to ask, “why take the chance?” Come in to our shop and meet the fine artists who can bring your jewelry back from the dead and breath new life in to your favorite pieces. Or give us a call and tell us what your needs are.

Ouch! This buckle took some serious strain--either over time, or all at once and it certainly took its toll!

This photo was sent to us by a customer. Can you spot the problem? Hint: It's on the left side! A repair was made to this Zuni pendent by an unknown source. The lost stones were replaced with colored plastic. This is one of those that leaves us shaking our heads!

The repair to this piece was done by Sam Gray. He cut and replaced the plastic with turquoise, mother of pearl, coral, and acama jet. It was all carefully cut to match the other side. That's quite an improvement over colored plastic isn't it?

I sent several items in for repair recently. They had needed repaired for years and since I live in Ohio I did not know a good place to take them. I sent my jewelry here after as visit to Old Town in March. The repairs were beautifully done and the price was very affordable. Plus, the pieces were shined and looked as good as new (or maybe better) when they were returned to me! Thanks for a job well done! I’m very pleased.
